‘Ocean’s Thirteen’: Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) & his Rolex GMT Master II

Ocean’s Thirteen is an American comedy heist movie released in 2007. Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich), it is about an ensemble cast consisting of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and others joining a mission to ruin Willy Bank (Al Pacino), a business person who is in the process of opening up a new hotel-casino in Las Vegas and has betrayed one of their friends.

Brad Pitt in a movie means we’re dealing with a character who exudes the greatest amount of coolness. In this case it is Rusty Ryan with his laid-back attitude and an excellent taste for fashion. It is quite difficult to successfully match a gold dress shirt with white pants, but Rusty pulls it off perfectly. While shirts and pants are often worn only a few times until the next big trend comes around and you throw them in the far corner of your closet, it’s really the jewelry that makes up the timeless basis of a man’s clothing style. So as long as you’re not married and don’t wear a wedding ring really it is all about the kind of watch you chose to strap to your wrist.

Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) wears a yellow gold Rolex GMT Master II with the reference 116718LN.

In the film, Rusty wears a Rolex GMT Master II reference 116718LN. It’s the solid gold model with a black ceramic bezel and it fits Rusty’s gold dress shirt quite well. When it comes to the 116718LN, there is two different dial colors to choose from and Rusty decided to go with the green one, which is kind of cool since it’s not as common as the standard black one and makes the watch face look like a poker table. The watch is 40mm in diameter and takes up the perfect amount of space on Rusty’s wrist. Most people wear their watches on the left arm, since they’re right-handed. However, Rusty has a tribal tattoo on the left arm, so for the most part of the movie, he wears his watch on the right hand to not cover it up.

There is something about a gold Rolex that’s classy but flashy at the same time and more often than not people consider it cheesy. But since the movie is set in Las Vegas, it’s clear the casino theme plays a major role and when you got people putting their tailored suits on display and throwing around poker chips, it’s perfectly fine to show everybody what you got and rock that solid gold model on your wrist. If you still think the gold is too much, watch the beginning of the movie and you’ll see Rusty leaving a crime scene and crossing a runway to get to a private plane. So if anything at all it’s the plane that’s over the top and not Rusty’s type of watch.
